Most of the tracks, bicycle paths and road have been completed on the extension of tram line 7
The extension of tram line 7 is continuing, and by the end of November most of the construction work planned for the project is already complete. The most technically complex and extensive types of work – track construction and road asphalting – are practically complete, while construction of the dispatch building and the engineering solutions necessary to ensure its functionality are continuing.
Railway track construction is 95% complete, with approximately 3800 meters of the planned 4000 meters having been built. Similarly, 95% of the road has been asphalted (~27 400 m²), and 80% of the bicycle path has been built (~4000 m²). The installation of contact line supports is 92% complete, and 10% of the contact line overhead system has been built.
Significant progress has also been made in other areas, such as paving work at stops and transport hubs, which is 70% complete, and construction of the main line stop platforms, which is 75% complete.
Approximately half of the planned work has been completed on the dispatch centre building, in the foundations of which a time capsule with a message for the future was ceremoniously laid in July.
The construction of the new substation, which will ensure public transport movement both at the new transport hub and on the extended line, has also been completed.
The site was inspected by representatives of Rīgas satiksme, the construction company CBF SIA Binders, as well as the Riga City Council and the Ministry of Transport, who reviewed the work done so far and outlined plans for further work.
The total track extension of tram route 7 will be 2.2 kilometres. As part of the construction works, a transport interchange is built on a land plot at the Latgales and Višķu iela intersection. A new control building is planned in its territory, as well as access roads from both Latgales iela and Višķu iela for public transport movements. The area is also being landscaped with large shelters, information signs, and boards, greenery and street lighting. The trolleybus route 15 will also be extended 300 metres along Višķu iela to the transport interchange.
The project is planned to be completed by May 2026. A contract for the design, construction and supervision of the project has been concluded with CBF SIA Binders in the amount of EUR 28 349 687.19 excluding VAT. Meanwhile, construction supervision is being carried out by SIA BaltLine Globe, with whom a contract worth EUR 46 500.00 excluding VAT has been signed.
The project is financed within the framework of the related measures 1.1.1.2.i.2. and 1.1.1.2.i.3. of the investment 1.1.1.2.i "Environmentally friendly improvements to the public transport system of the city of Riga" 1.1.1.r. reform "Greening the Riga Metropolitan Range Transport System" of the reforms and investment axis 1.1. "Emission Reduction in the Transport Sector" of the Component No. 1. "Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability" of the Recovery and Resilience Facility Plan of the European Union.
